🧠 About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Payin Platform team. You will design, develop, and maintain backend systems to power Wise’s payment platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance solutions to meet the evolving needs of our global customers.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
- Design & Implement scalable backend services for our payment platform
- Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to deliver new features
- Optimize existing systems for performance, reliability, and efficiency
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for integration with internal and external systems
- Ensure security of sensitive financial data and compliance with industry regulations
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the team’s decision-making process
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and enhance system observability
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
- Stay updated on emerging backend technologies and trends in payment systems
✅ Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in backend development, focusing on scalable systems
- Proficiency in Java, Python, or Go
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture
- Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Expertise in RESTful API design and integration
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Strong understanding of payment systems and financial transactions
- Familiarity with security best practices in handling financial data
- Knowledge of payment industry regulations and compliance
- Experience with agile development methodologies
