Team Overview: Screening Team
The Screening team is responsible for building a robust framework to ensure that all Wise products adhere to necessary screening checks, preventing the onboarding of sanctioned individuals, organizations, and politically exposed people. The team is focused on enhancing customer experience and ensuring accurate, auditable checks while supporting operational growth. You’ll collaborate with compliance teams to develop and scale internal tools that streamline case handling and improve onboarding processes globally.

Position Overview
As a Backend Engineer in Screening Handling, you will work closely with the operational and compliance teams to redesign and enhance internal tools. Your primary focus will be creating efficient, intuitive, and scalable solutions to improve the customer experience and support operational scalability. You’ll also partner with regional teams to enhance FinCrime solutions, ensuring seamless integration across regions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Product Mindset: Prioritize work with a strong customer and operational team focus, using data to guide decision-making.
• Collaboration: Work closely with compliance, operational back-office teams, and regional units to understand their needs and challenges.
• Development: Lead the redesign and development of internal tools, focusing on creating solutions that are scalable and efficient.
• Automation: Identify and automate manual processes where possible to increase efficiency and scale screening solutions.
• Integration: Improve FinCrime and screening solutions to support seamless onboarding across regions.
• Customer-Centric: Ensure screening tools are designed to provide an invisible, frictionless experience for customers.

Required Qualifications:

• Technical Expertise:
  • 4+ years of experience in Java (version 8+), Spring framework, and event streaming platforms like Kafka.
  • Experience with microservices and best practices.
  • Proficiency in relational databases, query optimization, and schema design.
  • Knowledge of system integration patterns.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and distributed systems.
  • TDD mindset with a focus on writing testable code.
• Communication: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Bonus Skills:
  • Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React.
