Role Overview:
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our AI platform services team. This role focuses on data ingestion, indexing, and improving the search quality of personal injury case data. The team is responsible for processing thousands of cases and millions of medical documents, extracting critical data points to build a source of truth dataset. This dataset will be foundational for multiple services across the organization.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week in the office, based in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or the Greater Toronto Area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Document Extraction Pipeline:
    • Develop and enhance the document extraction pipeline using AI and LLMs (Large Language Models) to accurately identify data across files and cases.
  • Service Development:
    • Design and develop modular services to extend data infrastructure capabilities and surface core data entities for downstream teams.
  • Collaboration with Data Science Team:
    • Work with the Data Science team to integrate ML models into production workflows, focusing on simplifying ML deployment and ensuring observability.
  • Event-driven Systems:
    • Implement low-latency, event-driven systems to provide stakeholders with accurate and reliable data.
  • Scalability & Performance Optimization:
    • Analyze and solve performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and high availability issues to ensure smooth operations.
  • Team Growth & Data-first Culture:
    • Contribute to the growth of the engineering team and help define a “data-first” mindset across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of industry experience in designing and building distributed data systems.
  • Experience in architecting and scaling event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding and experience with data pipeline tools and storage systems such as Post, Dagster, BigQuery, and Elasticsearch.
  • Proven ability to communicate cross-functionally with stakeholders to derive requirements and architect scalable solutions.
  • Experience in shipping production-ready code and managing infrastructure.
  • Passion for driving projects to completion and delivering results.
  • A commitment to making a positive impact, particularly for injured victims and their attorneys.

Preferred Skills:

  • Fluency in Python, SQL, and GraphQL.
  • Previous experience integrating ML models and LLMs into data services.
  • Domain expertise in legal technology, medical records, and working with unstructured data.
