🔧 Role Summary
We’re seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Observability team and lead the development of backend services for our opinionated apps (e.g., Cloud Provider O11y, K8s Monitoring, Database O11y). This role includes infrastructure design, middleware development, and open-source collaboration.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scalable backend solutions for observability apps.
- Design high-quality integrations with infrastructure, cloud services, and databases.
- Contribute to OSS projects like Alloy, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and Beyla.
- Collaborate with Product, GTM, and Support to align engineering with business goals.
- Drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and uphold engineering best practices.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and support production systems.
- Represent Grafana Labs in open-source communities and forums.
✅ Minimum Requirements
- 8+ years in software engineering, primarily backend.
- Advanced proficiency in Go (Golang).
- Strong experience with cloud-native systems and microservices.
- Proven track record in observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, etc.).
- Skilled in leading large-scale, cross-system projects.
- Experience with production support and incident response.
- Strong mentoring, problem-solving, and communication skills.
🌟 Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in observability backend architecture.
- Open-source contributor with successful PRs.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud internals.
- Deep understanding of telemetry, visualization, and alerting systems.
- Active involvement in OpenTelemetry or Prometheus communities.
