💼 Role Overview
Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Cloud Observability team. You’ll own the development and scalability of opinionated observability applications such as Cloud Provider O11y, Database O11y, and Kubernetes Monitoring. This role focuses on backend systems that drive performance, integration, and visualization experiences across Grafana Cloud.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain backend features for observability apps in Grafana Cloud.
- Develop scalable integrations across infrastructure, databases, and applications.
- Create SDKs, libraries, and middleware to accelerate observability solutions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, GTM, and support teams.
- Actively contribute to OSS communities (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Alloy, Beyla).
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident management cycles.
- Mentor engineers and drive technical direction within the team.
- Represent Grafana Labs in open source forums and working groups as needed.
✅ What We’re Looking For
Minimum Requirements
- 8+ years in backend software engineering with strong Golang experience.
- Deep experience with cloud-native development and microservices architecture.
- Solid understanding of observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, OpenTelemetry).
- Proven track record delivering high-performance, production-grade code.
- Leadership in technical planning and team mentorship.
- Experience operating distributed systems and participating in on-call support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building observability backends for databases, platforms, or infrastructure.
- OSS contributions and community engagement (e.g., PRs, forums, blogs).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and maintaining cloud-native workloads.
- Expertise in metrics collection, dashboards, and alerting systems.
- Understanding of cloud provider internals (AWS, Azure, GCP).
