Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Product Security Engineer to join our Product Security team. This role is integral to ensuring the security of Atlassian’s products and services throughout their development lifecycle. You will be working closely with development teams to enhance our vulnerability management program, review product security postures, establish security best practices, and guide engineering teams to build secure software from the ground up.
You should have a strong understanding of code and a deep ability to work cross-functionally, contributing to security improvements across our platforms. Our products are primarily built using Java, Go, and Python, and familiarity with these languages is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Security Leadership: Improve and strengthen our vulnerability management program and help refine security practices across development teams.
- Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to assess security needs and enhance existing security infrastructure.
- Code Security: Read and understand code across multiple languages, particularly Java, Go, and Python, to identify and resolve security issues.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Lead security projects, mentor junior team members, and help drive security initiatives across the organization.
- Communication: Effectively communicate complex security concepts to engineers and stakeholders, fostering a culture of security awareness.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years in security-focused roles, with a solid track record in application security, particularly web applications.
- Technical Expertise: Strong experience with cloud security architecture and infrastructure, coding proficiency in Java, Python, or Go, and at least one scripting language.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to make informed security decisions and guide teams on security best practices.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Proven experience leading projects and mentoring other security practitioners.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, able to explain security decisions clearly to teams with more technical expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Community Engagement: Published contributions to the security community.
- Public Speaking: Experience presenting at industry events or conferences.
- Cross-Functional Experience: Experience working with compliance, privacy, IT, networking, or related functions.
Compensation & Benefits
Atlassian is committed to offering competitive and transparent compensation. The pay range for this role varies by geographic zone:
- Zone A: $190,400 – $253,900
- Zone B: $171,400 – $228,500
- Zone C: $158,100 – $210,800
