Lumotive is seeking a Senior Engineer, Test Automation to lead the design, development, and maintenance of automated test stations crucial for validating the performance of our advanced lidar systems. This hands-on, multidisciplinary role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, hardware-driven environment, ideal for professionals passionate about test automation, hardware systems, and cutting-edge technology.


🎯 Key Responsibilities:

  • Test Station Design & Development: Build and maintain automated test stations for lidar system calibration, performance testing, and system characterization.
  • Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to define test station requirements, algorithms, and workflows.
  • Component Selection & Assembly: Choose optomechanical components, build custom fixtures and control boards, and perform mechanical assembly, soldering, and debugging.
  • Software Development: Develop control software using Python to interface with test equipment and station peripherals.
  • Documentation & QA: Maintain documentation for design, procedures, and test results, and define QA routines to ensure reliability, accuracy, and repeatability of test stations.
  • Data Presentation: Present key findings and methodologies to technical teams and leadership, ensuring clear communication of test results.
  • Design & Code Reviews: Participate in design and code reviews to ensure quality software development.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience developing test automation systems using Python.
    • Strong Python programming skills, including experience with hardware control, data analysis, and database integration.
    • Familiarity with Python testing frameworks (e.g., pytest) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
    • Knowledge of SQL databases and API integration.
    • Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals (circuits, power, signal integrity).
    • Comfortable with test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQs) and interfaces like VISA, SCPI, USB, and Ethernet.
  • Hands-On Skills:
    • Skilled in soldering, mechanical assembly, and using hand and power tools in a workshop setting.
    • Experience with optical testing or lidar systems is a plus.
  • Other Skills:
    • Experience with scalable test automation frameworks and knowledge of Python packaging and distribution.
    • Exposure to CI tools and test automation pipelines.
    • Experience with SQL schema design, data migration, and dashboarding tools (e.g., Tableau).
    • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
