We’ve recently rebuilt our web platform from the ground up — delivering performance improvements that directly enhance user experience. As we double down on performance, we are hiring a Principal Engineer to lead our web performance strategy and execution.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities

Architect, lead, and own the long-term strategy for web performance optimization across Reddit’s platform.

Define and enforce performance metrics and benchmarks that drive engineering excellence.

Build scalable infrastructure to support Reddit’s massive traffic demands.

Align cross-functional teams on technical and product strategy, working closely with Engineering Directors and Product Managers.

Guide high-impact architectural decisions with a clear focus on performance and maintainability.

Mentor engineering teams, fostering a performance-first culture across the organization.

Maintain a balance between innovation, velocity, and stability while improving system performance.
🧠 What We’re Looking For

15+ years of hands-on experience in professional web development.

10+ years of technical leadership experience, including vision-setting and execution.

Deep expertise in Typescript, Node.js, LitElement, and modern web architecture.

Proven track record leading complex, high-traffic web performance initiatives.

Strong ability to drive strategy, influence architecture, and lead across distributed teams.

A balance of tactical engineering skill and high-level technical vision.

BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Base salary range: $206,800 – $365,100 USD
