About the Role

Zoox is redefining urban mobility by building fully autonomous, all-electric robotaxis from the ground up. As part of our System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team, you’ll play a mission-critical role in validating safety cases that enable Level 5 autonomy.

We’re seeking a Manager of System Safety Engineering to lead a high-performing team of systems engineers in designing, implementing, and validating safety-critical systems for autonomous driving. You’ll be deeply embedded with our AI software, systems design, and product teams to ensure every milestone is backed by robust, end-to-end safety assurance.


πŸ› οΈ Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of Systems Engineers focused on system safety for autonomous driving systems.
  • Define and evolve the Zoox Safety Case in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Champion and refine the System Safety Engineering Process to align with Zoox’s mission for safe, fully autonomous deployment.
  • Conduct hazard analysis using methodologies such as STPA, FTA, and FMEA to evaluate safety in various operational design domains.
  • Translate safety insights into actionable test scenarios and support risk quantification through probabilistic assessments.
  • Drive the development of safety requirements, maintain full traceability, and close the loop with safety case evidence.

πŸŽ“ Required Qualifications

  • M.S. or higher in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in System Safety or Systems Engineering.
  • 2+ years of people management experience.
  • Hands-on expertise in STPA, FTA, FMEA, HAZOP, or FHA.
  • Strong foundation in probability, statistics, and risk quantification.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex safety and engineering concepts clearly and collaboratively.

βž• Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with autonomous systems or driving technologies.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262, ISO 21448, DO-178, or similar safety standards.
  • Safety certification(s) in relevant automotive or aerospace standards.

  • Base Salary: $201,000 – $253,000 (dependent on level and experience)
  • Equity: Amazon RSUs + Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights
